We have all heard that makeup can melt off your skin if you do not apply it properly. But what exactly helps it stay on the skin for prolonged periods? I wrote a step-by-step guide to help your makeup last all day . No need for extra powder or blotting sheets during the day anymore.

Start with a clean moisturised canvas
It is important to ensure your skin has been thoroughly prepped before applying your makeup. Start by cleansing the skin. I personally only cleanse once in the morning using the Revitalift Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Gel Cleanser. However, a lot of skincare gurus swear by double cleansing. I would recommend this if you have very oily skin, or if you are washing away makeup or sunscreen. Otherwise, double cleansing during the day, and at night will be too much for dry, combination and sensitive skin types.

Next is moisturising. The goal here is to make sure your skin is hydrated enough so that the makeup sits well. My favourite products are the Nakin Performative Face Serum and Tatcha’s The Dewy Skin Cream. Allow your products to dry before moving on to the next step to avoid your makeup pilling.

Apply your primer
The primer you choose depends on your skin type, and the look you want to achieve. If you have dry skin, you should go for a hydrating primer, like the e.l.f Power Grip Primer, and if you have oily skin, you might prefer a mattifying primer, like the Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Mattifying Primer. Primer helps the makeup grip your face for a long-lasting wear.

Use your setting spray in between steps
I love to use the Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Setting Spray after blending out my foundation and applying concealer, but before I blend out the concealer. After setting, I blend out the concealer, then I add contour and blush or bronzer.

Powder up
Set your concealer with a lighter shade of loose powder before following up with pressed powder. Go for the Huda Beauty Easy Bake loose powders. There’s a reason they have such good reviews (hint: they’re soo good)! Another incredible powder to use is the Anastasia Beverly Hills Loose Setting Powder.

Finish off with a good amount of setting spray
Set your makeup as the final step. That will ensure your makeup does not budge all day long.

Extra tip
Your foundation matters. Due to their formulation, longwear and matte finish foundations are likely to last longer. So, if you want a radiant, dewy look, make sure you set your makeup properly to prevent it from moving around.
